Week 2 Keys to the Game

The Talons hit the road this week and head to Des Moines, Iowa to face the 1-0 Barnstormers. Iowa defeated Milwaukee 60-38 in an impressive week 1 victory.

SHARPEN UP

Tulsa managed to grab a win against the Horsemen, but it was ugly and a much closer game than it should have been. Obviously the 4 INT’s by Allgood is something that will have to be controlled and quickly as we head further into the season. You could see the rust on Justin by the overthrown, underthrown, and picked off passes all throughout the game. At some points in the game his accuracy seemed to find its stride and I believe that as he takes more snaps he will get back into his groove. The Barnstormer defense only allowed 38 points against the Iron and the defense really led them to victory. Bringing in DB Pierre Thomas (4 years of af2 experience with Arkansas and Rio Grande Valley) should strengthen our already solid DB core while Jermaine Hope has been moved over to injured reserve. Kicker Luke Phillips was 4 out of 6 on PAT’s and 1 out of 3 on FG’s. Phillips also faced some tough situations when QB James Welker wasn’t able to get a couple of long snaps handled and down for the PAT attempt. Allgood and the kicking game will need to have a better game with fewer errors in order to come out on top at Iowa.
