AIFA to Hold Press Conference in San Jose, California

BALTIMORE, Maryland (December 1, 2009) – The American Indoor Football Association will host a major press conference on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 3:00PM PST for the purpose of introducing a new professional sports franchise. The conference will be held at the offices of OCZ Technology Group, 6373 San Ignacio Avenue, San Jose.

AIFA co-founder Michael Mink and franchise management will be on hand to participate in the announcement. Afterwards, they will answer questions from the media.

“This press conference will be the culmination of a great deal of work to bring a new professional sports franchise to San Jose,” Mink said. “When we began allocating major market teams for expansion, we knew some outstanding talent would be available (with the demise of the Arena Football League). That's why we will be able to bring a higher quality of play to major markets on the west coast.”

The American Indoor Football Association's Internet radio program, This Week in the AIFA, will provide coverage of the announcement in its next edition. The program can be downloaded through the AIFA's home site (www.aifaprofootball.com) or OurSports Central (www.oursportscentral.com).

I think its a good thing. The AIFA league is growing and that is good. They have two new teams in washington state, The Yakima Valley Warriors and the Wenatchee VeNom. The Venom has a fairly good roster so far and the Warriors have been in the league a couple weeks and have signed some players. I hope the best for ALL leagues. The more the merryier.

Logo isn't bad concept. Interesting to see the final execution. We've seen worse (AF1, anyone?)

How does the AIFA structure their season given that they pretty much have two divisions on opposite sides of the U.S. Do the teams cross divisions much or only in the playoffs? Would seem to be quite a bit of travel otherwise.

hey tannerman: you know that af1 you just bashed? you know that rush logo you use for your avatar? they are going to be together as one in about 5 months.

He didn't bash af1.

Simply said that he thought the logo was not a great design. Others who are also serious af1 fans have also said the same.

Cameron you have problems. He did not bash the af1. He bashed the logo. Despite losing my af1 team, I continue to support it, and will drive to at least a handful of games this season. But the logo sucks. It's awful.

I think that with San Jose already having an AIFA team, Central Valley would be wise to head in the same direction.

It would give them convenient driving rivalries with ...

Washington (Wenatchee Valley Venom & Yakima Valley Warriors)
New Mexico Wildcats
Utah (Ogden Knights)
California (San Jose Wolves)

IFL generally has the better footprint but they're really weak in the south west where the Coyotes need support.

The AF1 logo issue will probably be a mute point in the long run, in my opinion, as if the AFL tradename assets go to AF1, I would imagine that they would just adopt the "AFL" brand anyway.
